Earning Preferred Vendor Status

Premier Houston Landscape Services Company Selects Ferris Propane-Powered Zero Turn Mowers.

BIO Landscape & Maintenance, Inc., began as a liquid fertilizer company in Robert Taylor's garage in 1982. Since then, the company has expanded to offer a full range of services including irrigation, grounds maintenance, plant health care, arbor care and tractor mowing. Today, BIO Landscape is a $40 million business with offices in Houston, Dallas, Sugarland and Beaumont (with plans to open a fifth office in Galveston next year).

The largest portion of the company's business is grounds maintenance for commercial and institutional customers. "We have over 450 maintenance contracts and operate 45 crews each day," says Taylor, the company president. "So when we decided to replace 30 of the commercial zero turn mowers in our fleet, choosing the right unit from the right company was critical."

The team at BIO Landscape selected the Ferris IS3100ZP mid-mount zero turn because it met their key selection criteria: it helps their mowing crews increase their productivity by mowing more acres per hour; and it runs on propane, an alternative fuel. Suspension System Increases Productivity

"We conducted a very thorough productivity test in the field before we purchased the Ferris units," says Randall Perdue, the maintenance division manager for BIO Landscape. "We tested it versus an identical sized competitive unit currently in our fleet over a period of 14 days to see how fast our operators could mow under normal conditions and the IS3100ZP produced 24.7% more productivity," he says.

"I wasn't willing to accept that number so I tested it again," Perdue says, "and we came back with nearly identical results. You can imagine the efficiencies we'll gain running 30 of these units."

"One of our main business goals is to be more productive so we can save our clients' money and still hold our margins," emphasizes Taylor. "We're taking properties away from our competition because they cannot match our prices."
